Thanks to a speedy reaction, an attempted housebreaking in Roosevelt Park was foiled on 4 November after community members and security officers worked together to apprehend two would-be house robbers.
Warrant Officer TJ de Bruyn of Sophiatown Police Station said, “At about 1.15pm, police received a radio call of a housebreaking [in process]. When police arrived, community members and security [officers] apprehended two men in their 30s.”
Clive Maher, owner of security company, Suburban Control Centre said, “The apprehension of the suspects showed great collaboration between the community and security officers.
“Through a WhatsApp group the community chats on, the neighbours were able to alert each other of the unknown men getting into the house.”
De Bruyn also said that the suspects allegedly broke into the house and stole a laptop and a cellphone, which were all later recovered.
“Both the suspects have been detained at Sophiatown Police Station and a case of housebreaking and theft has been opened.”
