Crime incidents in Delta Park

DELTA PARK – Park visitors are encouraged to report any incident that happens in the park.

Reports of sexual harassment and public indecency have been reported to members of the Blairgowrie Community Association (BCA) inside Delta Park.
Head of security at BCA, Gavin Fayre posted on the Delta Park Facebook group that he had received a disturbing report about recent events in the park.
One report was that a drunk man attempted to sexually assault an elderly lady, but was frightened away by one of her dogs. He has subsequently been seen ‘lurking around’.
Another man was seen masturbating near a tap at the public toilets.
Linden police spokesperson, Captain Walter Spencer said he could not find any cases that had been filed at the station. Fayre added, “Incidents like these are not common and that is why we take it so seriously and alert everyone.”
Captain Spencer urged the community to report these incidents and any other to the police station. “Opening cases reflect on our stats and we are able to deploy more vehicles to monitor the areas,” urged Captain Spencer.
Here are some safety tips from Linden police when visiting a park:

  •  Don’t walk alone, especially elderly persons
  • Don’t wear valuables that are flashy, like gold rings and chains
  • Let someone know the details regarding your whereabouts
  • Don’t walk in the dark
  • Report the incident promptly on WhatsApp groups to alert fellow users
  • Phone the police to come out to the place where the incident happened; don’t wait too long
  • For a crime, call Linden police on 10111 or 011 888 9299
  • For a bylaw violation, call Metro police on 011 375 5811
  • If the authorities are able to respond quickly, you or a witness should keep the perpetrator in sight and take the officer to the perpetrator
  • Open a case at the police station, if necessary and write down your reference number.

If you have any concerns or have experienced any of the same issues, report them to the police and email the BCA on security@myblairgowrie.co.za
