Government getting ready for final exams

JOBURG – The department has set up camps and programmes for matric pupils to attend before the final exams.

Matric revision camps and intervention programmes have been set up by the Gauteng Department of Education in preparation for this year’s National Senior Certificate.

“As part of our final push strategy to ensure the preparedness of pupils, we placed emphasis on the Secondary Schools Improvement Programme, providing opportunities for intensified study and drill sessions aimed at increased content coverage as well as intensified exam practice, every Saturday of the past school holiday,” the department said in a press release this week.

Camps were established across the province focusing on covering topics that have not been sufficiently covered during the year and ‘drilling pupils in possible exam questions’.

One of the incentives the department hopes will encourage pupils this year, is a full bursary for top achievers in township schools.

The top three achievers in each township school will get a full bursary, including registration fees, tuition fees and prescribed books for R55 000 per academic year at a higher education institution.

Additionally, each school that obtains a 100 per cent pass rate will automatically become a full ICT or paperless school. The department said this means from Grade 8 to 12, these schools will be fully kitted out with smartboards, tablets, laptops and computers.

Exams results will be released on 5 January next year.
