Stiaan Smith showcases talent

LINDEN – Young actor is ready for people to see his first full-length film that will be released on 30 September.

LINDEN – There is no stopping actor, writer, producer and resident of Linden, Stiaan Smith as he recently took on his full-length movie, Sy Klink Soos Lente which opens at cinemas on 30 September.

Smith produced this film along with Bouwer Bosch, Rachelle Crous, Tina Kruger and Danie Bester. Smith did not only produce the film but wrote it four years ago and also played the lead role of Ben.

In a recent interview with Randburg Sun, a relaxed Smith was eager to talk about his latest project. “I wrote Sy Klink Soos Lente in 2012 as a way to create a job for myself.” He said that he feels that this film has a fresh take on romantic comedies.

“My inspiration comes from films that are more dialogue motivated like Juno and Silver Linings Playbook.”

Most of the film was shot last year in Linden as well as Melville and Krugersdorp.

Smith studied at AFDA, the South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance. Smith said that he dropped his studies as he found it too intimidating. He then opted to study Bcom Finance at the University of Johannesburg.

Smith, however, could not forget his one true love – acting and writing. “I wrote many plays for the Northwest University, Aardklop and Innibos.”

His first acting role in a full-length film was as Retief in the Afrikaans film, Vir Altyd. He also worked on a short film called Beurtkrag that will be released as a stage production. Smith also works alongside Bennie Fourie in the comedy series, Hotel.

Smith found it difficult to name one thing that he still wants to do. “I am already living my dream. I am very privileged.” Smith said that he would advise young people in the film industry to trust their own style.

This unique film with its sharp humour and local-is-lekker angle is a testament to the talent of this young man.
