UJ quiet as academic programme continues

AUCKLAND PARK – UJ issues a statement to students stating that academic programmes will carry on as scheduled.

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) issued a message to inform students the academic programme, business and operations of the university would continue as scheduled.

This follows after students protested outside the Auckland Park Kingsway campus on 26 September for the #FeesMustFall movement.

The protest turned violent when students were shot at with rubber bullets which left one protester wounded. The student was subsequently rushed to Helen Joseph Hospital. Another six students were arrested for public violence.

The message also said that there were measures to ensure the academic programme, business and operations of the university are not disrupted.

Campus is quiet at the moment, with no incidents reported since yesterday.

This is a developing story, and updates will follow.
