Alberts Farm spring fair

ALBERTSKROON – Community members raise funds to beautify their park.

The Friends of Albert’s Farm Conservancy hosted their annual Spring Fair where fun was had and money was raised to better the park.

Families from Greymont, Albertskroon and surrounding suburbs enjoyed their Saturday strolling past stalls which sold crafts, food, clothing and second-hand goods. The little ones were well entertained with pony rides, jumping castles and other fun activities.

Chairperson of Friends of Albert’s Farm Conservancy, Julie Gouws, said the fair was a success and that more people attended this year’s event than they had ever seen at the Spring Fair.

Gouws added that the main objective for the fair was to generate funds for the park so that community members had a more enjoyable space to utilise.

She added that alien invasive plant control will be implemented in sensitive wetland and grassland areas with the help of Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo. “In the longer term, we would like to remediate and restore the wetlands. One of the things would be to prevent excessive storm water from entering the park and putting better erosion control measures in place,” said Gouws. She added that the aim is to improve the biodiversity, as well as involve the children and community more in conservation initiatives.
