Motorcyclists flip pancakes for fundraising

LINDEN - The Ulysses Joburg North motorcycle club get behind gas cookers for charity.

The Ulysses Joburg North motorbike club (UJN) continued to support the Salvation Army Firlands Children’s Home at their annual Gigantic Fundraising Fête, their biggest fundraiser of the year.

The club attends the fête every year where they have a pancake stall which brings in much-needed money for the children’s home. This year, on 27 August, the club was able to increase its takings by almost 30 per cent compared with last year.

Club member, Jenny ‘Dragon Lady’ Middleton said, “The difference in the pancake stall this year, is we organised more gas burners and more people to cook and roll out the pancakes, so output was improved.

“UJN was very pleased to contribute and make more money than last year, as it means disposable income for the home to meet the running costs of the house and care for the children. This was a fulfilling day for us all, making a useful and positive contribution to Firlands.”

The only missing person on the day was the president of UJN, Alan Russell, who was unable to attend as he is still in ICU after a motorcycle accident.

Salvation Army Major, Eddie de Vos said, “We are grateful to them as the entire club always comes out and helps. They do a tremendous job of running the pancake stall and even helped with the security of the stalls and the entrance gates. Anything I needed help with, a UJN member would be there!

“The club is very kind and holds outings and events for the children throughout the year and especially for Christmas and Easter.

“The fête is important in running the home and I would like to thank the community for supporting us and the volunteers, who we could not do without.”
