UPDATE: Westdene shooting victim to be buried in Lebanon

WESTDENE - The man died in hospital and will be buried in Lebanon soon.

The 50-year-old Ahmed Abouzraa, who was fatally wounded in a shooting incident near the corner of Perth Road and Portland Avenue and later died in hospital, will soon be buried in Lebabon, his home country.

Captain Mavela Masondo, the provincial spokesperson for the Gauteng police, said they are investigating the possibility that the 50-year-old victim, who was driving a Range Rover, was followed by suspects in a silver grey Mitsubishi minivan on 31 August.

Jeanette Backhoff, communications officer for Brixton Police Station, added that witnesses saw four men wearing balaclavas, who were driving in the Mitsubishi, approach his car at the intersection. The men were all armed and opened fire on the driver of the Range Rover.

Masondo said the suspects removed a bag from the backseat of the victim’s car before they fled.

The victim was taken to the Helen Joseph Hospital where he died.

Abouzraa’s eldest son, Hachem, while preparing to board their flight on Friday morning, said the family, who lives in Florida Park, will arrive in Lebanon on Saturday morning to bury the deceased.

Ahmed leaves behind his wife and four children.

“At this stage, no arrests have been made but police are following up on all leads,” said Backhoff.
