Northcliff residents oppose cell mast

NORTHCLIFF – Residents of Northcliff say cell mast will bring down the value of their property.

Resident, Dave Luppnow, is furious about a cell mast that is to be erected next door to his property.

Luppnow and his wife Marlene, bought the house in Northcliff Ext 5 a year and a half ago and only occupied the house in July this year. He said that he spent all his retirement funding to renovate his house to raise the property value.

He said that Marlene accidentally found out about the erection of the cell mast which is to go up in the next door neighbour’s yard, when she was applying for a postbox for their new house. “The letter is dated 11 August and we only received it by chance on 19 August,” he said. He said they had very little time to react. Luppnow added that he approached his neighbour, who told him they have not signed the papers yet. The neighbour said that nothing has been confirmed yet in regards to the mast. When she was asked more questions, she said she did not want to comment anymore.

“My biggest concern is my property value decreasing after spending so much money to renovate, as well as the health affects that come with the cell tower,” said Luppnow. He added that none of the other neighbours is happy with the mast either.

Luppnow said, according to his knowledge and findings, the company that wants to erect the mast is obligated to place a notice outside the residence at least three weeks prior. They did not do that.

Luppnow tried to contact the planning company responsible with no luck. “The phone just keeps ringing,” he said. He escalated the matter to Ward 88 Councillor, Nicholas Lorimer, who said the Luppnows have every right to object to the mast being erected next door their house. “I am still gathering the information. If this has a negative influence on their property value, they can object,” said Lorimer.
