Election results show the people have the power – Mashaba

JOBURG – Mashaba is excited about the election results in the City of Johannesburg.

Democratic Alliance mayoral candidate for the City of Johannesburg, Herman Mashaba, is excited about the outcome of the local elections in the City.

Mashaba said the outcome significantly proved that the people in the City lost their trust in the African National Congress (ANC).

“I am excited that we have managed to show the ANC that people need a change in our City. The electorate had spoken and I am glad that the ruling party was given a lesson that when you don’t listen to your people, they will take you out,” he said.

He explained that the most fiercely contested municipal elections in the history of the South African democracy show that civil society has the power to change.

He also promised that the DA would do everything in their power to provide basic services to the residents in the City.

“The elections prove that when you work with people, you need to listen and be thoughtful about issues which affect their daily lives,” explained Mashaba.

When asked about a possible coalition after the outcome of the elections, he said the party’s federal leadership was handling this.

“Whatever the outcome, we respect the views of our leaders,” he concluded.

The DA gained ground in the City earning 38, 37 percent leaving the ANC with 44, 55 percent and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) with

10, 94 percent. The City is now preparing to be governed by a coalition of political parties.
