Choirs battle for top spot

FAIRLAND - Music Festival featuring 100 choirs to come to Mosaïek Theatre. Tickets are still available.

The much-anticipated 2016 Old Mutual National Choir Festival is coming to the Mosaïek Theatre in Fairland.

The festival will take place on 6 August at Mosaïek and tickets are still available. It will feature more than 100 choirs from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Swaziland. The festival will tour throughout the country, bringing the beauty of choir music to South Africans everywhere.

Billed as a choral showdown, this annual competition is one of the longest-running and most successful choral music events on the subcontinent, igniting the passion of musicians and thrilling their fans and supporters.

“The prescribed songs for this year are extremely varied and challenging. We look forward to seeing how choirs will express these songs,” said Bandile Mngoma, Old Mutual sponsorship manager.

This year choirs are instructed to perform songs from the large or standard category African pieces and large or standard Western pieces. “Old Mutual has proudly supported this contest for 39 years and we continue to be in awe of the dazzling talent it showcases,” said Mngoma.

Tickets are available at Computicket for R50. No tickets will be sold at the door.

The festival moves to Eastern Cape on 13 August.
