Petrol strike continues

JOBURG –The national petrol strike continues as unions negotiate a wage increase.

The petrol strike that been on for about a week and has affected some petrol stations around the country. It is still unclear how long the petrol strike will continue for and when a settlement between the unions will be reached.

The national petrol strike that was announced on 28 July by the largest of the three unions, the Chemical, Energy, Paper, Printing, Wood and Allied Workers Union (Ceppwawu), continues.

The union is demanding an increase of nine percent, while the industry is offering a 6.5 percent increase. In addition, the union also wants a one-year wage deal and rejects the two-year deal proposed by the National Petroleum Employers Association (NPEA).

Meanwhile, motorists are still on high alert as concerns of petrol completely running out still linger.
