Woman on life support after gas bottle explodes

Brave neighbours come to the rescue of an elderly woman who was trapped in a burning house.

An elderly woman is on life support in the Milpark Hospital after a gas bottle exploded in her house in Hampton Drive and set the house on fire last night.

A neighbour alerted emergency services late last night when she noticed that the house was in flames.

In the meantime, another neighbour and two security guards who were patrolling the area went into the burning house to assist. “They ran into the burning house and managed to help the woman to safety. One of the neighbours suffered burn wounds to his feet and legs while saving her life,” said Karen Kruger.

The fire brigade was on the scene in minutes and extinguished the fire. The injured woman was then rushed to hospital t after suffering smoke inhalation and burn wounds. She was later put on life support.

People in the neighbourhood were marvelling at the bravery of the neighbours who helped her to safety. “They put their lives on the line to save her. If it wasn’t for their bravery, the woman would have burnt to death in her house,” said Kruger.
