The fairest land of them all

FAIRLAND – Fairland fairies spread their wings in a quest for community togetherness.

Through reading fairy tales, we have come to know fairies as being these mystical beings that spread goodness and love.

They have a radiant air about them and fly around scattering magic pixie dust over everyone they meet. Fairland has fairies too, they are not mystical, just members of the community doing their bit to give back.

The Fairland Fairies are a group of women who have taken it upon themselves to make their community the best community there is out there. A fairy, Yasmine Miemiec spoke about the group’s vision for the future and their first of many projects.

Miemiec explained that the group has currently got about eight women who came together in hopes of making Fairland a better community. “The projects we plan on doing are all centred around wanting Fairland to band together as community and a sense of oneness,” she said.

The fairies first project was a vegetable patch outside of the Fairland police station. She expressed that the idea is to have these gardens spread across the community. “The police station was our first ideal spot because we know that officers face a food challenges and through this garden they can harvest food and hopefully people will not ruin it as it outside the police station,” said Meimiec. She carried on to say that the vegetables harvested are not just for the police. They plan to put a big sign over the patch that reads, ‘pick some, leave some’ so that the residents know that they too can enjoyed the harvested food.

“Our next vegetable patch will come in the coming months when we have established a great spot to plant as water accessibility is very important,” said Miemiec. The vegetable patch consists of Beetroot, Butternut, Cabbage, Broccoli, Spinach, Onions, Cauliflower. “These are all winter crops, after the season we will plant the summer crop.”

Department of Social Development supplied seeds and tools and will also give the fairies training.

Miemiec concluded that she was very proud of what they have managed to do so far as this had been a passion for all the fairies. “Making our community come together as one so we can work together to make it make it is what this is all about.”
