Student jets off in brand new car

MELVILLE – Super Spar Melville makes Christiaan Vrey the happy owner of a brand new special edition Hyundai i10 Glide.

Christiaan Vrey was the lucky recipient of a glorious new special edition Hyundai i10 Glide, all thanks to Super Spar Melville.

The 24-year-old University of Johannesburg honours student recalled that it was a series of uncommon events that lead to him going to the Spar on the day.”I went to buy a couple of things, but on this day I did something that was out of character for me,” said Vrey.

After buying the items he needed, he went into the sweet isle and bought himself a nougat. “I was heading to my best friend’s hockey practice and decided to get a chocolate for him too.”

It was two days later that he received a call that completely surprised him. “A woman from Spar called me and said I had won a car. I was very skeptical and did not believe her, not even after she read out to me what it was that I had bought. Even after I found out that I had really won, I was still in disbelief,” said Vrey. He expressed his gratitude after his “once in a lifetime grand win”.

Store manager Jaques Crooney explained that is was a “win-a-car” competition that Vrey had entered. He added that they remind customers of the weekly draw that will take place to win the car. “Chris’ till slip was the fourth drawn slip, after other slips did not have the item needed to win. Who would have known that buying a chocolate worth R5 would make you win a car,” said Crooney.

He added that it feels good to do more for the community than just delivering a service. “Giving back is great, and letting our customers know they mean a great deal to us.”

Vrey said that this was an unexpected but great surprise. “This car will honestly help me because the car I was using, was giving me major problems. Now I will have less to worry about.”
