Homeless man bludgeoned to death

VICTORY PARK – Homeless man involved in a scuffle is left dead on the side of the road.

A homeless man was murdered in Victory Park Ext 18 on the afternoon of 2 June.

Media liaison for Netcare 911, Athlenda Mathe said that reports from the scene indicated that a fight broke out between two homeless men on Zonda Avenue and one man hit the deceased with a large rock. “When we arrived on the scene we found that the man had already died due to extensive injuries he had sustained,” said Mathe.

Spokesperson of Parkview Police, Sergeant Iris Phoko said that the men were seen running across the Braamfontein Spruit bridge. “It was here that an onlooker said they saw one of the suspects pick up a big rock and bludgeon the other with it about seven times,” said Sgt Phoko. “He continued this until he died.” Sgt Phoko added that the man was taken into police custody and charged with murder.
