Suspect linked to local robberies, is finally caught

VICTORY PARK – Police urge residents to do background checks on gardeners they employ.

A 34-year-old suspect linked to robberies in Blairgowrie was arrested in Victory Park on 17 May.

Investigations by the Linden Police led to the Cosmo City resident’s arrest. He is believed to work as a gardener in Victory Park. Linden Police Captain Alex Vermaak said that the suspect resisted arrest. “He ran and jumped a couple of walls before he was apprehended,” said Capt Vermaak. The suspect was found with stolen property on him.

Capt Vermaak added that the police are expecting to make more arrests linked to the suspect who will be appearing at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon. “The Linden Police detective task team was responsible for the arrest,” he said

Capt Vermaak urged residents to be careful of the people they hire. Furthermore, employers should always insist on phone references. “The police offer criminal clearance where residents can check criminal backgrounds of the people they employ for R69,” he added.
