Matrics spend the night in Venice

VICTORY PARK – De La Salle Holy Cross College Matric pupils have the time of their lives at their annual Matric dance.

It was a night to marvel for the Matric pupils of De La Salle Holy Cross College.

Their Matric dance, which took place on 6 May at the school hall, was themed Autumn in Venice. The theme was one of the school’s biggest kept secret until the night, and the hall was transformed into the city of Venice complete with canals, gondolas and masks.

The Matrics, their partners and parents had an incredible evening and it was a memorable occasion for all. As is the school tradition, the Grade 11s fundraised, chose a theme and decorate the hall themselves. On the night, Matrics transformed into Hollywood royalty and the entire school turned out for ‘The Oscars’, this is their chance to watch their Matrics arrive and walk along the red carpet to be cheered and admired.

On the following evening, 7 May, the hall was used for the Come Back, Give Back Dance. These tickets are sold to the parents and past pupils, and all money raised is donated to a chosen charity, along with blankets brought along by the guests.

Principal, Debbie Harris said that she was so proud of the pupils. “The Grade 11s outdid themselves and worked so hard during the April holidays,” said Harris. “Our Matric dance is a very special tradition and every year it is enjoyed by everyone in the community.”
