Wits University sent its condolences to the families of seven of its students killed in a road accident in Limpopo.
The students were travelling in a minibus taxi which crashed into a stationary trailer that was on the road. The crash caused the taxi to burst into flames.

According to a statement released by Wits vice chancellor professor Adam Habib’s office, “The students were travelling back from a prayer meeting in Limpopo. The students hail from several faculties and are in different years of study. They are also from different provinces. Many students belong to the Wits ZCC student society.”
Several Wits delegates, including members of the Wits Students’ Representative Council, the dean of Student Affairs Dr Puleng LenkaBula and prof Habib travelled to Limpopo on 2 May. The members met with the families and friends of some of the students who died in the accident.
The university flag has been lowered and is flying at half mast in honour of the students who died. A memorial service will be arranged after consultation with the families.
The statement further added, “The untimely loss of our students is an absolute tragedy and our deepest condolences are extended to those who knew them well, especially during this very difficult time.”
