Positive Lifestyle Programme welcomes young people

WESTBURY–Young people are encouraged to attend the positive Lifestyle Programme at the Windsor East Recreational Centre.

The Positive Lifestyle Programme is currently running at the Westbury Transformation and Development Centre every Tuesday.

City of Joburg manager of social development, Selaelo Mohajane, said that the programme is about training young people with gaining positive life skills. The programme happens from 10am to 12pm and is offered to ages 18 and 19 years.

“People who attend, learn skills such as anger management, communication and presentation skills. We do not want these skills and experiences to end at the programme. These skills can be used for their careers, and in their interaction with society, family and friends. This is also a positive way to remove young people from the streets and committing crimes,” explained Mohajane.

Due to the positive feedback from the Westbury community, Mohajane said that they also began implementing the same programme in Windsor East Recreational Centre.

“Unfortunately after sending our invitation to young people in Windsor a few weeks ago, the turnout was not so great. We urge young people to take an interest in our programme and try it out. If the next programme is attended by more than ten people, it will continue,” said Mohajane.

City of Joburg social worker for region B, Nicholas Njoku, said that the young people who participate in the programme, will also participate in the Local Drug Action Committee in the community. He added that the Westbury Committee is in collaboration with stakeholders in the community, who are responsible with drug addition.

Positive Lifestyle Programme member Shuaib Bagus said that before he started the programme, he experienced a number of challenges with his relationship. He got guidance and direction on how to cope with dealing with other people. He encourages others to change their mindset and become something positive in their community.
