Hundreds attend DA’s march for change

BRAAMFONTEIN – Hundreds of Democratic Alliance supporters attended the March for a change to Constitutional Court.

Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane told supporters outside the Constitutional Court that President Jacob Zuma must do the honourable thing and resign.

He said the president does not believe in the rule of law but rather the rule of a man who is trampling the constitution and looting state resources.

The party’s supporters turned out in their numbers, clad in blue. They marched from Pieter Roos Park to the Constitutional Court.

The march for change was led by Mmusi Maimane, Cape Town mayor Patricia De Lille and Gauteng provincial leader John Moodey.

This follows the Constitutional Court judgement, which stated that Jacob Zuma had violated his oath of office and the constitution.

“We are here to say that, Jacob Zuma, your days are numbers. He has been charged with racketeering, he has been charged with corruption. He is a walking charge,” he told supporters.

He said the president’s biggest crime was when he violated his oath of office. “He apologised and laughed at us,” he continued.

Maimane further indicated that Zuma must reprimand his ministers as instructed by the highest court in the land. “This is our freedom and nobody must trample our freedom,” he said.

He further indicated that it was not just black people who were marching for the DA, but all people.

According to the DA leader, unemployment in Cape Town was going down whereas in Johannesburg, unemployment was going up. “We are here to say it is not only the people of Cape Town that must experience good governance but the whole of the country.”

He further insisted that there were no members of the DA with a public protector’s report against them. “That is why we are saying that with Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng, we have found a judge who has a spine. We can’t talk about freedom without the constitution,” said Maimane.
