Speedy response results in a suspect behind bars

NORTHCLIFF – Suspect arrested by Beagle Watch reaction officer is linked with 55 incidents of fraud.

A suspect who allegedly attempted to purchase items at the BP EL Corro Motors with a fake credit card, is linked to other crime incidents from other police precincts.

The suspect was arrested on 5 April at the garage in Northcliff when Beagle Watch task force officer, Emmanuel Mthethwa, swiftly responded to the incident.

Mthethwa explained that when he arrived at the garage he found two men. “The shop owner said they were using a fake card. We assessed the scene and closed the door while they were inside,” he said.

When it was established that the suspect had purchased items using the fake card before, they then studied CCTV footage and positively identified him.

Mthethwa arrested the suspect and detained him while waiting for the Fairland Police who had already been notified by the Beagle Watch control room.

Fairland Police officers confirmed to the task force officer that the suspect was wanted by four different police stations for a number of offences including fraud and attempted murder.

“The only way to catch these guys in the act, is to get there as quickly as possible. From the time of receiving the signal to arriving on the scene, just over two minutes passed,” said Hein Breytenbach, head of Beagle Watch control room.

“It is all down to rapid response and that’s what we excel at. These quick arrests are all about good teamwork, rapid response and working closely with the local police,” said Breytenbach

Fairland Police spokesperson Constable Moloko Kgatla confirmed that the suspect appeared at the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 7 April.

He said this suspect was expected to plead guilty and receive a fine. “We will send police officials to arrest him again,”he explained.

He further indicated that the suspect had targeted various Pick n Pay stores around Gauteng province. “He was allegedly using a fraudulent identification. He is linked with 55 cases of fraud from various police stations,” concluded Kgatla.
