Three armed men rob victim of his car

WESTDENE – Three armed suspects accost a victim in his yard, manhandle him and take off with his car.

Sophiatown Police have opened a case of armed robbery of a vehicle, after a man was held at gunpoint in his yard on 23 March.

Siya Ngcobo said that he had just locked the front door to his house at around 8am and was approaching his car when three armed men appeared next to his car, all pointing guns at him.

“They walked towards me and told me to go with them but I refused because if they were going to shoot me, they might as well shoot me close to home,” Ngcobo said.

He explained that he got into a scuffle with the robbers who had pulled him by his pants and smacked him in the face. This is when he started screaming for help.

“They searched me, took my wallet, cellphone, work laptop and house keys, which they used to open the gate and leave with my car,” he added.

Ngcobo said he drove a black Audi A3 2005 model with plate numbers SBG 901 GP.

He believes that the suspects must have planned the attack in advance because he felt that they were well-organised and knew what to do.

“I am a little shaken by what has happened but I am glad that I am still alive even though I have lost my car. I am hoping that the police can recover my car,” he lamented.

Warrant Officer Lorraine van Emmerik from the Johannesburg cluster confirmed the incident and added that the police were looking for the three suspects.

“We are appealing to residents to come forward if they have any information pertaining to the case and this must be reported to the Sophiatown Police Station,” WO Van Emmerik said.
