Fireside tales warm the soul

AUCKLAND PARK – A celebration of the isiZulu culture brings two schools together.

The Grade 5, 6 and 7 girls at Auckland Park Preparatory School and their families recently participated in the annual isiZulu Fireside Tales Evening at The Ridge School in Westcliff.

The evening was a celebration of the isiZulu culture through traditional songs and storytelling, which were told by Auckland Park Preparatory School’s isiZulu teacher, Mama Ndaba, and isiZulu teachers from other schools.

Each grade performed their own item, which ranged from gumboot dancing to Djembe drumming and isiZulu poetry. “The evening closed with the singing of the national anthem and everyone thoroughly enjoyed this celebration of diversity in our schools,” said Ndaba.
