Athletes shine bright with five medals

FAIRLAND – Three athletes win eight medals between them at the SA Athletics Championships.

Laerskool Fairland is very proud of their three athletes who won five medals between them at the South African Athletics Championships in Port Elizabeth on 11 and 12 March.

Chanté Botha won a bronze medal in the 100m track event as well as a silver medal in the U13 relay event. Corné de Fouw won a gold medal in the U11 1200m event. Euané Theart won gold as a part of the U11 relay team and gold in the 70m hurdles.

The pupils said that the championships were very stressful as the competition was very tough. They joked and said that the competitors from Western Cape and the Free State are very fast and gave them a run for their money. They also added that they train very hard and are grateful for the talent that they have.

Principal of Laerskool Fairland, Willie Goosen said that the achievement is excellent. “This is the first time in the history of the school that our athletes won so many medals, including three gold medals,” said Goosen. He added that he and the school are very proud of them as they are the best in the country in their respective events.
