Police, residents and security companies work together to catch robbers

LINDEN – Linden Police apprehended three suspects minutes after a robbery.

Linden Police successfully arrested three robbery suspects within minutes of a robbery taking place, thanks to the fast response of police, security companies as well as residents.

Captain Alex Vermaak from the Linden Police Station, said that on 10 March four robbers gained entry into a house on 9th Street in Linden by throwing a brick through the sliding door.

He said that while they were on their way to the house, an off duty police officer, Sergeant Quinton Jewatzchewitz, spotted and apprehended two suspects believed to be involved in the robbery.

Capt Vermaak explained that at the same time, while a search at the house was underway another suspect was found, hiding in the bushes and was immediately apprehended.

He added that they recovered a television set and a play station that robbers had removed from the house.

“At this stage we are still investigating to see what else was taken from the house, as the fourth suspect is still at large,” Capt Vermaak pointed out.

“There was good cooperation between the police, residents as well as security companies who supported each other and were instrumental in successfully apprehending three out of the four robbery suspects,” he noted.

He thanked ADT, Chubb, Cortac and CSS Tactical response security companies for their assistance. He added that the residents in the area were also very helpful as they raised the alarm and made calls to other residents to alert them about the robbery.

He asked residents to contact them should they have any further information about the fourth suspect.
