E-toll tariff is set to increase

JOBURG – E-toll tariff will increase by five per cent on 1 March.

Another blow to Gauteng motorists as the South African National Road Agency (Sanral) is set to increase the tariff of e-tolls on the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP) roads.

According to the statement by Automobile Association (AA), the tariff was expected to increase by five per cent on 1 March. This announcement was published in the Government Gazette (#39695) issued on 15 February.

The AA alerted motorists about the increase as the information does not appear on the Sanral’s e-toll website.

Any adjustments to the capped limit for tagged users were not mentioned in the Government Gazette.

These increases to the toll rates come barely six months after the tariffs were reduced as a result of a public outcry, and discounts of up to 60 per cent were offered on outstanding balances before September 2015.

According to the AA, this announcement was the latest move by Sanral which appeared to be intensifying the government agency’s efforts to secure more payment for the tolling system.
