Armed gang robs Spur

BLACKHEATH – Shots were exchanged between an armed gang and a security guard after a robbery at the Heathway Centre.

Fairland Police are on the hunt for three suspects who burgled the Heathway Spur at the Heathway Centre.

According to Fairland Police communications officer, Constable Moloko Kgatla, the burglary happened around 3am on 28 January.

He added that as the three unknown suspects were leaving the restaurant the alarm went off and the security guard arrived just as the three men were getting into their vehicle.

“The security guard chased them in their silver Toyota down Beyers Naudé Drive when the suspects started shooting at the security guard, who then shot back at the robbers. The suspects then hit the pavement after Vaugh Avenue before they proceeded to make a U-turn and then attempted to drive towards Cresta Mall. However, the suspects decided to abandon the car and got away on foot,” he said.

Const Kgatla pointed out that four television sets, two cellphones and a bottle of brandy was recovered inside the car.

He said that they suspected that these were the suspects that were behind the robbery that happened at Thunder Gun restaurant recently where two television sets were also stolen.

“We are pleading with residents to come forward with any information regarding these robberies. Restaurant owners must be on the alert and ensure at all times that they have activated their alarms before leaving at night,” Const Kgatla pointed out.

The investigation continues.
