Fired for neglecting duties

PARK TOWN – Power outage issue blamed on resident engineer.

A resident engineer was fired from Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital on 12 January.

The dismissal came after the hospital faced a power outage that caused certain wards to be without power. According to the Department of Health spokesperson Steve Mabona, most generators immediately kick-started, “only one area did not have power supply,”he said.

As a result of such an occurrence, the Department of Health fired the resident engineer. Mabona said he was fired because he “neglected his duties, by not doing what was supposed to be done.”

The said resident engineer was in charge of management infrastructure and was dealt the task of maintaining the generators. Mabona added that two generators failed to start which put patients’ life at risk.
