Violence allegedly erupts at Wits
BRAAMFONTEIN – Police enter Wits University and allegedly cause chaos on the campus.
Violence allegedly erupted at Wits University’s main campus after private security guards and riot police attempted to remove protesting students from Senate House on 12 January.

According to reports on social media, the private security hired by the university arrived early in the morning and began allegedly assaulting students.

One student said that the the violence was exaggerated and that most entrances to the university were closed. “There is a very heavy security guard presence here today but so far it remains calm,” the student said.
Head of communications from Wits Shirona Patel was unavailable for comment.
