Rotting corpse found in Helen Joseph maintenance duct
ROSSMORE – Horrible smell prompts an investigation.
A rotting corpse was found at Helen Joseph Hospital in Rossmore on 11 January.
Gauteng Department of Health spokesperson Steve Mabona confirmed that a decomposed male body was found in a maintenance duct in the hospital. When asked how the body was found he commented, “The continuous stench prompted an investigation, with assistance of the Department of Infrastructure and Development, the body was found.”
The hospital is still trying to verify when the body went missing. Mabona said that the body has not been identified yet. Mabona said that they cannot answer who from the hospital was responsible for the body before it went missing, and that they are still trying to verify whether the body was reported missing.
The police and the forensics department have been contacted and the matter is still under investigation, Mabona concluded.
