Ridge substation fire causes havoc

City Power says they are working tirelessly to fix extensive damage caused by equipment failure that started a fire at the Ridge substation. File image.

City Power released a statement to explain that just before 10am on 11 January a fault occurred in the Ridge substation which precipitated equipment failure, and this caused the equipment at the substation to catch fire. The damage caused by the fire is extensive and the following areas are affected:

Braamfontein

Parkview

Parktown

Hillbrow

Forest Town

Linksfield

Bellevue

Observatory

Berea

Engineering operations director for City Power, Louis Pieterse said that they hope to have full power supply by the afternoon of 12 January in all the affected areas.

He apologised for the inconvenience caused.
