Woman (73) found dead

NEWCLARE – The lifeless body of a woman (73) was found lying on the floor inside her home in Newclare on 21 December.

The body was allegedly found by a resident who often visited the woman to help her in the house as she lived alone. Police said the cause of the woman’s death is unknown.

According to Sophiatown Police spokesperson Warrant Officer TJ de Bruyn, the resident told police that at about 8:40am he went to visit the deceased, just like any other day.

WO De Bruyn explained, “The witness said upon his arrival, he found the deceased’s gate was open and the keys were still hanging from the lock.

“He went straight to the house where he found the old woman lying on the floor. Her hands were tied and her mouth covered”.

Police are waiting for the post-mortem results to reveal what weapon was used to kill the women and whether or not she had been raped. WO De Bruyn said there was no sign of forced entry into the house.

“So far we do not have any suspects but we are busy investigating the murder,” he said.
