Joburg Water attends to burst pipe
CRESTA – A burst pipe still causes water interruptions in Linden and Blairgowrie as Joburg Water tries to repair.
A burst pipe on the corner of Republic Road and Judges Avenue is still being attended to by Joburg Water as they work to fix the problem with a sense of urgency.
The pipe that burst on the afternoon of 16 December left residents shocked as they witnessed kilolitres of water flood the roads in their suburb. Spokesperson of Joburg Water, David Sibiya said they had to request permission from a building to excavate on their property to attend to the burst pipe.
“We cannot state how long it will take to fix the burst pipe as we first have to excavate the land then attend to the pipe,” said Sibiya.
Joburg Water has taken to Twitter to reassure the residents that the problem is being attended to.

In a statement, Joburg Water said that the pipe, which is 750 mm in diameter and sits 7 to 10 metres deep, was damaged due to normal wear and tear. They added that excavations were halted yesterday to declare the buildings safe and receive permission to demolish it. The excavations have also resumed.
Joburg Water urged residents to use water sparingly as the Linden Tower is empty due to Robindale, Ferndale, Linden, Blairgowrie, Darrenwood and Linden Ext having been affected.
Water tankers have been designated to certain points around the affected areas:
Rabie Street: Sasol Garage
Rabie Street: Medicross Clinic
Corner Silverpine and Hans Schoeman
Corner Rabie and Republic
Corner Rabie and Ysterhout
Corner Bram Fischer and Jan Smuts
Outside MultiChoice Building
Outside M-Net Building
Corner Cross Street and Malcom
Corner Hunter and Bram Fischer
Corner Conrad and Bram Fischer
Sibiya concluded with a request to the residents of Linden and Blairgowrie to be patient, as this pipe will take a while to get fixed.
“We can not promise when the pipe will be fixed but we can assure the residents that we are working on fixing the pipe,” said Sibiya.
