Off-duty police officer busts armed robbers

NEWLANDS – A major bust is made by an off-duty officer.

An off duty police officer busted armed robbers in Newlands.

Gauteng Provincial Police spokesperson Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng said stolen goods and a firearm were also recovered during the arrest.

Captain Mofokeng said it was on 14 December at about 5pm when the off-duty officer and his family drove through Ontdekkers Road from Florida to Sophiatown.

”The family spotted a shop owner running out of his shop,” said Mofokeng.

He said the businessman showed the officer the three suspects running down the road.

“The suspects were chased and two of them arrested,” he said.

Capt Mofokeng could not confirm what goods were in their possession.

“SAPS would like to acknowledge the good job done by the officer,” he concluded.
