This event was aimed at putting the spotlight on the negotiations in Paris at COP21 climate deal and to inform leaders that these organisations would continue to take action for climate justice.

Greenpeace Africa media officer, Angela Karnein, explained that 2015 was already the hottest year in recorded history.

“From the deadly heatwave in Egypt to the current water crisis due to drought in South Africa – all around Africa, people are feeling the impacts of climate change,” she said.

She further explained that there were renewable energy solutions that were able to deliver the electricity needed while drastically reducing the strain on the country’s water resources.

“We have partnered with Sunshine Cinema to showcase these important films using 100 per cent solar energy, illustrating that renewable energy solutions are viable and ready to go,” said Karnein.

Climate and energy campaigner Anand Pathanjali said the screening was aimed at highlighting the impact of climate change across the world.

“Climate change is affecting communities. We chose this day to bring the conference in the spotlight,” Pathanjali said.

He indicated that the solar-powered screen was operational through batteries that were charged by solar energy.

He concluded that movie was based on a book written by Naomi Klein about the impact of climate change.
