Andisiwe Mbaleki brought the characters of Charlie and B to life as she read out loud from the book to the children who attended the book launch at the Bamboo Lifestyle Centre. Charlie and B is a book about two little dogs who have an appetite for adventure and includes sound effects and detailed illustrations. Author Helen Webster and illustrator Jess Jardim-Wadepohl signed copies of the books for the children.

“I wrote Charlie and B to appeal to a wide range of ages. The sound effects are a lot of fun for parents reading the book to younger children. But older children who are learning to read, love to play with the sounds too and discovering them in the illustrations,” explained Webster. “On their journey of exploration, Charlie and B encounter a porcupine, a caracal and a bearded vulture – I wanted to focus on animals that aren’t your standard South African animals,” added Webster.

Webster added that the children enjoyed the reading of the book, and laughing along to the funny parts in the book.

Charlie and B is available at Love Books in Melville and through www.clockworkbooks.co.za.
