Wits arts student goes to New York

NORTHCLIFF – Aspiring young Wits musical theatre student Zanda Isaacs has been chosen to represent South Africa at the International Arts Convention in 2016.

University of Witwatersrand (Wits) musical theatre student Zanda Isaacs (19) from Northcliff, has been offered an opportunity to study in New York, and also perform at the International Applause Rising Talent Showcase (Arts) Convention in 2016.

Isaacs said she has been offered a partial scholarship at the New York Film Academy that is scheduled to begin in September 2016 and is thrilled about this upcoming challenge.

“I am excited to get the platform to work harder and longer than I ever have before. I am looking forward to push myself and be pushed to a great extent as that is where the magic happens. I think the film school will not only boost my career but also challenge me emotionally,” said Isaacs.

She explained the Arts Convention is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for upcoming artists to showcase their talents and abilities to top scouting agencies.

Agencies such as BET, Tyler Perry Studios, Click Model Management, Disney, Sony BMG and Universal Records will be scouting at the convention.

She added the convention also entails a series of workshops conducted by industry professionals and one-on-one meetings with scouting agents.

“The Arts Convention is an amazing opportunity to launch my international career and it will also be a learning experience that will enhance my skills through participation in the workshops,” said Isaacs.

Isaacs explained she started classical voice training at the age of 15 and received a distinction in her Grade 7 Royal Schools Music Exams by Matric after which she started following her passion of musical theatre.

Isaacs said her future plans include working on her craft daily so that she does not get lost in the competitive pool of emerging artists but her ultimate goal is to step into Broadway and sign a deal with Columbia Records.
