Road resurfacing in Melville almost complete

MELVILLE – Following queries regarding the resurfacing of roads in Melville, the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has explained why resurfacing is done at night.

JRA spokesperson, Bertha Peters-Scheepers said, “The sections referred to in Melville are key business areas with restaurants, coffee shops and art galleries, and as their parking lots are already filled to capacity with vehicles during the day, the JRA has tried to minimise the impact on the Melville roads to businesses as well as to residents by resurfacing at night. Working during the day will lead to traffic congestion and serious disruptions to the businesses.

”We apologise for this temporary frustration, and due to the current rains we are unable to complete work along 4th Avenue and 7th Street, however the teams have confirmed that once the road surfaces are sufficiently dry, resurfacing will be completed within two to three  evenings.”

She added that the road markings reinstatement has been escalated for quality assurance and JRA will ensure that all resurfaced road markings will be accurately repainted.
“We sincerely apologise for the temporary inconvenience to the Melville community, but look forward to providing you with a quality road network,” she concluded.

Residents are encouraged to report all road and storm water issues to 0860 562 874, hotline@jra.org.za, via  Twitter @MyJra or by using the JRA Find&Fix app.
