City opens registration for third set of COJEDI interns

JOBURG – COJEDI has opened the online registrations process for the third intake of ICT interns.

The City of Johannesburg’s COJEDI Programme has opened online registrations for the third intake of interns. The City launched this programme to train digital interns and are now taking online registrations for the latest round of interns.

The COJEDI City of Johannesburg Educating Digital Interns Programme is focused on driving innovation and entrepreneurship through critical thinking, preparing students for employment and empowering them to meaningfully participate in the mainstream of the ICT sector and the burgeoning economy. Key stakeholders and partners to the programme are FiberCo, Microsoft, Cisco, Technology Innovation Agency, IBM and Nunnovation Africa Foundation and have restated that they are committed to the COJEDI programme.

Prospective interns who wish to participate in the COJEDI programme can register online. Once accepted, the interns will dedicate their time undergoing technical and business skills training over a period of four months and thereafter be placed on a six month work experiential learning programme in different host companies. The programme is set to equip the youth of Joburg with skills to become some of the City’s brightest Information Technology (IT) minds and position them as commercially employable in the Information Communications Technology (ICT) sector.

Up to date a total of 500 interns have passed the course and are on their way to take over the IT sector. The COJEDI programme was initiated by the City of Johannesburg in January as part of the foundation phase of developing a smart city. The strategy is to recruit and train 1 000 of the City’s brightest young information technology (IT) minds to be part of the new digital intern programme. The project will support the Gauteng infrastructure investment programme launched by the Gauteng Premier David Makhura and is focused in the area of ICT and broadband. These learners are carefully selected to ensure that they meet the minimum requirements of Matric or a related qualification. This entire programme is ten months long and is striving to place all students in employments or entrepreneurship opportunities.
