No injuries after blaze ravages a house in Westdene

WESTDENE - Joburg EMS quickly put out the fire at a house in Westdene this afternoon.

The cause of the fire that ravaged a house in Dover street in the afternoon of 29 November in Westdene is still unknown.

Joburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said the fire destroyed two bedrooms and the roof.

“No one was injured. At this stage we don’t know what caused the fire,” he said.

He explained that they were still investigating the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.

Sophiatown Neighbourhood Watch chairperson Dauw Steyn explained that the EMS fire brigade responded swiftly and extinguished the fire quickly.

“It seems that the entire roof was destroyed but we commend the quick response from Joburg EMS,” concluded Steyn.

According to the Westdene Johannesburg CROW Facebook page there were loud bangs during the blaze.

The post also reads that the residents were not at home when the fire started. It goes on to say that some of the tenants were at home.
