Founders Grill gets gold

Founders Grill Florida the heart of Roodepoort wins gold in the Restaurant Category of the Rocci/FNB Business of the Year Awards 2015.

Founders Grill restaurant first opened its doors in Florida Glen on Gordon Road in 1984.

The mother and son duo, Faye Evlambiou and Michael Evlambiou, took ownership in 1994.

For the past 20 years the restaurant has grown to become one with the community.

Its slogan Good traditional home cooking has become synonymous within the community as a place that embraces family.

“When we first took ownership we were petrified. We were taking over a very successful restaurant and had no experience in the restaurant business,” said Faye.

It took two to three years to truly ingrain themselves in the community as the new owners.

“Our biggest success is that we have kept the restaurant running and haven’t compromised on the high standards we hold,” added Michael.

They were nominated by the Roodepoort Chamber of Commerce for the award.

“We received the email of the nomination and from there Michael and I had to give a presentation to six judges about our business,” stated Faye.

The night finally came in November where they were awarded gold in the Restaurant Category of the Rocci / FNB Business of the Year Awards 2015.

The response from the community and patrons have been amazing, explained Faye.

“It gives us a sense of prestige and it was a great honour.”

The staff and patrons at Founders Grill have learned a sense of family, “The mixture of home cooking and good family values, I believe it is what has allowed us to make a historic footprint in the community.”
