Students go on the rampage in Westdene

It is alleged that UJ students threatened the Westdene community.

Management of The Bohemian had to evacuate all patrons at the restaurant on 13 November at around 11 in the evening. They were allegedly threatened with fire bombs by UJ students. According to a post on the Westdene Johannesburg CROW Facebook-group, bands and patrons were safely evacuated. The post also said that there were fires reportedly set on the corner of Lancaster and Kingsway streets. A bus shelter was also set alight. “UJ students are threatening the safety of Westdene, ” the post stated.

It was also posted that riot police were called to assist people to safety and that police were still on the scene on the morning of 14 November at around 9.30am , monitoring the situation.

UJ SRC member, Karabo Segage could confirm the incident, however could not confirm if UJ students and SRC members were involved.

Comment from Brixton Police is awaited.
