Principal dominates at South African Veterans Open

WELTEVREDEN PARK– Dr Bitz was selected to represent the Southern Gauteng Badminton Association at the Southern African Veterans Open and Inter–provincial Badminton Tournament

Delta Park School principal Dr Hannetjie Britz represented Southern Gauteng Badminton Association at the recent South African Veterans Open and Inter-Provincial Badminton Tournament.

The Weltevreden Park resident said her club won the inter-provincial tournament, where she also won the women’s doubles title in the open event. Coming from a family where her parents started a badminton club, she started playing junior badminton at the age of nine. She has been playing veterans for 38 years and has also played at senior provincial championships.

Dr Britz said she felt very honoured to captain the A side as well. The team was victorious in winning the inter-provincial A-side tournament for the first time in 20 years.

“I am a very competitive person so I enjoy that part of the sport. The friends I have made and places I have seen while playing the sport is incredible. I really enjoy the social part of the sport,” Dr Britz said.

She added that she does not practise as much as she would like to but manages to on three days per week. She believes that her motivation and attitude gets her through a game rather than her fitness level – although she considers fitness very important along with the time spent on the court.
