LINDEN – Firlands Children's Home staff gets helpful hints in saving lives

To honour CPR Day on 7 November, CPR instructors around the country were asked to present a CPR course to places that are underprivileged.

Owner and CPR instructor of Pexco Security and training, Marion Colley, chose to host a course for the staff members of the Firlands Children’s Home.

“It is important to remember that it is almost holidays and it is now the time where more accidents happen. If someone is able to perform CPR, they can save a life” said Colley.

She said further that she wants to encourage the community to learn how to do CPR.

The morning training began where Colley explained that when a person needs CPR, their heart has stopped pumping blood and by pressing on the chest, you can make the heart pump again.

Colley explained how to start when you come across a patient by making sure the area is secured and that you have gloves on.

He then gave all the participants a chance to put their partner into the recovery position.

After learning this step, participants had a chance to see Colley and her assistant, Johandre Marais, perform CPR on a mannequin.

The course was presented in an easy way to ensure that all participants could follow the steps.

Aside from adult CPR, the participants also learned how to perform CPR on infants and children.

The participants received certificates to show that they can perform CPR.
