Police warn against false advertising

JOBURG - Police warn residents to be aware of possible false advertisements of traditional healers in newspapers.

Linden SAPS have opened numerous cases of fraud concerning bogus traditional healers in the area.

Linden Police spokesperson Constable Carol Mulamu said in most cases victims meet with the service providers at an unusual and unsafe area.

“The victims are mostly desperate and that makes them vulnerable. The service providers pick up on this and take advantage of the victims,” said Const Mulamu.

She said during investigation of the matter, the police will discover that service providers often change their details.

Mulamu said no arrests have been made which makes police feel disheartened.

“We urge the community to be vigilant at all times when consulting the service providers and verify the authenticity of addresses,” warned Mulamu

Traditional healer Zesazi Mdingwa said it is very hard to spot bogus traditional healers.

“It is difficult to know if a traditional healer is real or not, but you do get those who misguide the public and see it as a money-making scheme,” said Mdingwa.

The Traditional Healers Association of South Africa could not be reached for comment by the time of going to print.
