GALLERY and VIDEO: Zombies emerge from West Park Cemetery

MELVILLE – Zombies walk around the West Park Cemetery to celebrate Halloween.

Residents of Melville and Fairland embarked on an exciting 2km Zombie Walk at the West Park Cemetery to celebrate Halloween while simultaneously raising funds for Marang House on 31 October.

More than 50 undead participants dressed in their attires and walked around the cemetery, resembling ghosts and zombies.

An exciting walk was organised by Empire Tattoos from Fairland. One of the event organisers, Jacques Jacobes, explained that it was their ninth annual walk.

All the Zombies that donated funds, received a wrist band which allowed them access to the after-party held at House Kitchen in Melville.

“It is a good day to celebrate Halloween. Johannesburg City Parks allowed us to walk around the cemetery,” Jacobes explained.

He added that they were hoping to raise at least R15 000 for the children of Marang House.

Marang House provides care and support for rural children who require hospital treatment and are in need of constant supervision and medical care.

One of the participants, Ameder Smith, said the walk was exciting.

“I heard about it a few years ago and couldn’t get the chance to participate. So fortunately this year, it was scheduled for Saturday and I grasped the opportunity,” Smith said.

One of the organisers, Ryan Ansley, was grateful that City Parks allowed them to use the venue.

“Participants were well behaved and respected the properties in the cemetery,” concluded Ansley.
