Pledge to be a good driver

JOBURG – Gauteng Legislature's Roads and Transport Portfolio Committee invites all drivers in the province to pledge to the 'I am a good driver' initiative.

Gauteng Legislature’s Roads and Transport Portfolio Committee and Intranet on embarked on a road safety campaign promoting responsible driving behaviour among drivers.

The Portfolio Committee was at Moloto Road in Pretoria on 30 October targeting motorists to pledge to this initiative.

The pledge started on 27 October and would last until 10 December.

The committee would also visit the M1 Highway and Golden Highway.

These roads were identified as key due to reports on them being among the deadliest roads in South Africa.

“The purpose of the campaign is to raise awareness on the importance of road safety and to encourage positive change in drivers’ behaviour as the Gauteng roads death toll remains at a high level and which is caused by among others, a lack of adherence to road signs and disobeying traffic rules,” explained Pfano Bulasigobo in a statement from the Legislature.

The committee sought to achieve several outcomes with the campaign such as improved behavioural change by drivers, awareness of road signs and traffic rules.

The other outcome was to emphasise the visibility and efficiency of all law enforcement agencies on the roads.

Drivers were invited to participate in this campaign by pledging to be a good driver by following the legislature on [Twitter @Gautenglegislat] or Facebook page.
