De La Salle Holy Cross College – Kicking for Cansa

VICTORY PARK – Junior school students raise R14 000 for Cansa.

Junior School swimming captains from De La Salle Holy Cross College started a Kicking for Cansa initiative.

Makayla Stockter, Chiara Bebington and Jason Rodgers organised college swimmers to participate in the 1 500m event at the Dis-Chem Sun City Swim, on 24 October.

Thirteen junior school swimmers, five high school swimmers, and a parent swam the race in aid of Cansa. The entire team completed the swim in under 40 minutes and had great fun.

The college’s team was kitted out with bright pink costumes and T-shirts. The College High School was also involved and sold pink ribbons to the other pupils. Students also organised a raffle to raise money for Cansa. Tarryn Human, the representative and community mobiliser at Cansa, will attend an assembly on 2 November at the College to draw the raffle winner, and the swimming team will present her with a donation of R14 000 raised by the swimmers and also donated by the Grade Rs from their concert.

“We would like to thank the parents and pupils for all of their support with this initiative, which is such a worthy one and affects so many people in different ways,” said sports administrator at the Junior School, Julie Rogers.
