Wits seeks interdict against students

BRAAMFONTEIN – Wits seeks further protection from protesting students.

Wits University lawyers are reportedly seeking an interdict at the South Gauteng High Court against protesting Wits students. SABC News reported that the interdict was to prevent further violence, intimidation and vandalism on campus.

On 28 October, the university authorised police to deal with unruly students. “We have now engaged the command structures of the police and they are securing all entrances. They are authorised to arrest all individuals who are involved in preventing lectures from taking place and other disruptive activities. We urge all staff and students to continue academic and other normal operations, and to support the academic project,” a statement on the Wits website reads.

More details to follow.
